Maritim Hotel Plaza Tirana, designed by 51N4E, showcases the architectural integration between heritage and sustainability through its form. The base of the tower is shaped by a subtractive gesture, carved to accommodate a preserved Ottoman-era tomb of Suleiman Pasha and lift the new structure above it through a monumental concrete arch. Above, a rotating shading device of concrete panels façade with a stone-textured surface serves as a passive shading system, reducing solar gain and modulating daylight, allowing the building to respond to the climate while engaging with Tirana’s urban context.
